Handwritten Thank You Notes

A few kind words always will make someone's day.

"Let us be grateful to the people who make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom."

 ― Marcel Proust, French Novelist

Thanksgiving is a time to share gratitude with those we love, those we work alongside, and those who have impacted our lives in big ways and small. In light of the challenges we’ve faced these last eight months, this Thanksgiving is more important than any before. We must exhibit gratitude, appreciation and togetherness.

As this holiday week begins, let’s take a moment to reflect at our desk and jot down people to whom we owe these virtues. Even if we haven’t been in contact with many of the names on our list, now is the right time. If there ever was a holiday that screamed sending thank you cards, Thanksgiving is the loudest. Not by sending the traditional cards, but rather taking time to send a handwritten note of appreciation to those whose presence in your life you’re thankful for.

Spend time making a complete list — don't miss a name and in the next few days, send out those notes. They don't have to arrive before Thanksgiving; they only have to arrive. When we let others know how much we care, how impactful they were in our life, a simple handwritten thank you goes a long, long way. From this day forward, keep that list nearby as it makes up your inner DNA. You need to review it often and take actions of thanks.

Handwritten notes never grow old. They are a surefire way to express gratitude and sincere appreciation. They don't have to be lengthy or wordy — plain and simple works fine. A few kind words always will make someone's day. On a day in which we’re thankful for the liberties we enjoy, we need to single out those who make the freedom we share fruitful.

Don't let this week go by without sending notes. And keep adding to your list.
