"Notes" of An Elder

Never let a day pass without engaging in one task that allows you to stay mentally young.

Nothing in life is of any value unless it is shared with others.

"Notes" of An Elder is a depository of pertinent information, knowledge and wisdom. Available weekly will be an elder's "thinking menu" for your use. Enjoy this bounty.

  • What is essential is not only to take from life, but it is essential that you put something back into it. We've forgotten our responsibility to give.

  • If you only had five days to live, how would you spend those five days?

3 Ways of Thinking

  1. Inside the box.

  2. Outside the box.

  3. There is no box.

  • A leader must have the humility to know that they don't know.

  • In an age of "lies-as-truth," honesty feels like the only path left.

  • There are things that I know that you don't know. There are things that you know that I don't know. There are things neither of us knows.

  • Fight the battle of being "you" forever because it will always be the greatest battle you will ever have to fight. It's the only battle you will ever have to fight, and its only battle worth fighting.

  • People are not here to meet your expectations.

  • It is essential that you reach the point where you can stand before a mirror and say, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most incredible one of all? And really believe it when the Mirror replies, "You are you, sweet old thing."

  • We're all involved in the same struggle to become fully human which is the best thing we can become.

  • We've got to learn to trust again, believe again, and work together again.
