"Notes" of An Elder ― 12.27.24

Life is too precious to be lived on autopilot.

Nothing in life is of any value unless it is shared with others.

"Notes" of An Elder is a depository of pertinent information, knowledge and wisdom. Available weekly will be an elder's "thinking menu" for your use. Enjoy this bounty.

  • It’s always darkest just before the sun shines.

  • Don’t just read books; study them. Immersing ourselves in the books of the past and present allows us to see the future and our own stories reflected in the humanity of others.

  • As a leader, you have to be courageous to raise tough questions and sometimes go against the flow.

  • There are more opportunities than resources. Prioritize!

  • What was good enough yesterday is suddenly no longer good enough today. Always keep learning, growing, and getting better.

  • The time is now to humble ourselves and to realize our ego is always lingering in the shadows, waiting to destroy and unravel everything we have ever worked for and built.

Self-Management

The most important person you'll ever lead is yourself.

  • Energy & Time

  • Mind & Attitude

  • Emotions & Sleep

  • Training & Learning

  • Environment & Nutrition

  • Behavior & Performance

  • Do not settle for the status quo. It stunts growth.

  • Just because only one person is arguing something different does not mean they are wrong.

  • We should not be afraid to throw things away. Let go of things that are not working.

  • Life is too precious to be lived on autopilot. Today, we’re presented with a unique opportunity to choose courage over comfort.

  • Our relationship with others will always come back to our relationship with ourselves.

  • Being a positive difference-maker is about lending a listening ear, offering a comforting shoulder, or simply sharing a warm smile. It’s about being present, showing empathy, and letting others know they matter and their lives have value.
