"Notes" of An Elder ― 4.11.25

Sometimes, our greatest breakthroughs don’t come from grand events, but from quiet moments—the decisions made when no one is watching.

Nothing in life is of any value unless it is shared with others.

"Notes" of An Elder is a depository of pertinent information, knowledge and wisdom. Available weekly will be an elder's "thinking menu" for your use. Enjoy this bounty.

  • Each day is a quest to understand the essence of what it means to be made for something more.

  • Living and leading an uncommon and meaningful life on your own terms doesn’t come from following the crowd, but from daring to be different.

  • In life, it doesn’t really matter why you get an opportunity—only what you do with it.

  • Sometimes, our greatest breakthroughs don’t come from grand events, but from quiet moments—the decisions made when no one is watching.

  • Our past experiences can shape—and sometimes limit—our perception of future opportunities.

  • A leader must be able to take criticism. No person in a position of authority is immune to it.

Wearing Multiple Hats

As a leader, you must embody the roles of a coach, a manager, and an educator. Each role carries its unique set of responsibilities:

  • Coach: Inspire, guide, and empower your team.

  • Manager: Organize, strategize, and keep the team on track.

  • Educator: Foster growth and transformation through knowledge, feedback, and skill development.

  • Find something that’s underappreciated, not being addressed, or being overlooked—and get really good at it.

  • The key is to keep moving, keep exploring, and to learn from every experience along the way.

  • It’s important to recognize that leadership doesn’t hinge on perfection.

  • Simple isn’t the same as easy—but it’s still worthy of a motto: Keep showing up.

  • True fulfillment comes from forging and trusting your own path.

  • A good leader grows and learns. Stagnation is not leadership.

Magic Question

If everything I’ve built or achieved were taken away tomorrow, who would I still be—and would I be proud of that person?
