It Is Our Obligation Today To Create Hope

It’s only when we don't stand united, when we don't stand as "We the People," do we show our vulnerability.

We should always be kind to one another. A simple act of kindness can bring a smile to someone we don't know and can easily brighten our day. In light of the recent world events, now is the best time to express more compassion, to exert more patience, to feel less anger, and most of all, to help one another.

When our founding fathers wrote the Declaration of Independence, beginning with “We the People,” at that time the “We” excluded too many people. It did not include women; it did not include African-Americans or men who did not own property. “We the People” was a small, intimate group. Today, “We the People” means all of us. It means you and I. It means that the United States must actually be united. When the United States or any great team is entirely united, nothing can stop it from reaching its full potential. Nothing will prevent us from reaching our goals. It’s only when we don't stand united, when we don't stand as “We the People,” do we show our vulnerability.

So how can we create a movement toward uniting? We tend to think that the works of one never make an impact; yet, we know as Former United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy once explained that a single ripple can create hope. Kennedy said: “Many of the world's great movements, of thought and action, have flowed from the work of a single person. A young monk began the Protestant Reformation, a young general extended an empire from Macedonia to the borders of the earth, and a young woman reclaimed the territory of France. It was a young Italian explorer who discovered the New World.”

Your actions today are that ripple of hope. Your behavior today toward others starts a chain reaction that others will follow. Be the first to show that ripple, be the first to show kindness, faith, and, most of all, relentlessness to unite.
