The Leadership Grace of Coach Buzz Williams: Seeing People First
Winning comes and goes, but touching and transforming someone’s heart—that lasts forever.

Texas A&M Men's Basketball Coach Buzz Williams has a rare gift for seeing people—not just for what they do, but for who they are. His leadership is meticulous, thoughtful, and deeply human.
But he is more than the coach of one of the most marquee college athletic brands in the country. If you listen to his words, watch his actions, and engage with the invaluable content he and his team have shared—from book recommendations to behind-the-scenes storytelling—you quickly realize that Coach Williams is far more than a great basketball coach. The way he thinks about life, leadership, and the investment in people and relationships transcends sports. His words infuse humanity into leadership in a way that is special, sacred, and real when you feel it.
Earlier this month, during the press conference following Texas A&M’s 67-64 victory over Missouri, Coach Williams took a moment to acknowledge the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism, one of the most prestigious programs in the field. He was also wearing a gray "Rally for Rhyan" 10th-anniversary T-shirt, honoring the movement named after the daughter of Missouri’s Senior Associate Athletics Director Brad Loos, supporting her ongoing fight against pediatric cancer.
This was neat: Buzz Williams offered some advice to #Mizzou journalism students after his press conference

Coach Williams took a moment to reflect on his journey, offering timeless advice to the journalism students in attendance—words not just for them, but for anyone on a path of leadership, growth, and transformation. His message resonates across industries and roles, whether you’re a coach, executive, leader, or someone desiring to make a positive difference.
Coach Williams’ four pieces of advice he wishes someone had told him:
Read more than you think you should.
Write down everything, about everything, all the time.
Over the next 10 years build as many relationships as you can, and learn to connect the dots between those relationships.
Never turn down an opportunity to learn, or to work.
“Good luck,” Coach Williams said as he exited the podium.
There is beauty in introspection and radical self-inquiry—going inward. What if we began to nurture and live out these four principles with greater intention? What transformations might unfold—not just in how we think about our own growth, but in how we show up, serve, and create impact in meaningful ways, no matter our platform?
Coach Williams’ sees people. Not for what they can do for him, but for who they are. Their humanity. And people will never forget how you made them feel.
So, in the midst of our hectic personal and professional lives, will we take the time to listen? To share? To use our platform and voice to bring attention to a cause greater than ourselves? To genuinely see people?
How will we use the resources and influence we possess in this moment to make a positive difference in someone else’s life?
Winning comes and goes, but touching and transforming someone’s heart—that lasts forever.
