“Cut yourself some slack. Grief is messy, it's messy business. The emotions, the disappointment, the feelings of betrayal, the anger. The regret of unspoken things, the plans we had, not knowing where to go from here. It's messy. The in-laws, family, thinking now what. So be gentle with yourself. There are things you're going to remember that you don't want to remember. There are things that are going to trigger you at the most inopportune of times. Feel your way through it. They're also glimmers, little pockets of joyful moments and hope and happiness. Let go of this idea that grief is linear, it's not. You can hurt while healing. You can laugh and then cry. You can celebrate a birthday right in the middle of your morning period. It doesn't take away from the fact that you're mourning. It actually enriches your ultimate life experience.”

I. This Too Shall Pass

I wish I had known that this too shall pass. That governs absolutely everything.

  • You feel bad right now, you feel pissed off, you feel angry? This too shall pass.

  • You feel great? You feel like you know all the answers? You feel like everybody finally gets you? This too shall pass.

  • If you are having the greatest time in your work, this too shall pass.

  • If you are successful, this too shall pass.

  • If you are sick, if you are experiencing great tragedy and great drama, and great difficulty...This too shall pass.

Time is your ally, and if nothing else, just wait ― just wait it out. This too shall pass.

II. It’s Here, It’s Time, It’s Now

There is greatness within us all. As the great scientist Walter Russell once said, “Mediocrity is self-inflicted, and genius is self-bestowed.”

  • Oftentimes, folks don’t go for greatness because they think that what they feel is reasonable enough for their lives.

  • They tend to place certain people on pedestals and confer mighty powers or specialness to such beings, while denying the innate power that is within us all.

We must now become great in our loving, great in our compassion, great in our peace-making and our peace-keeping, great in our forgiving, great in our kindness, and great in our generosity.

And we must finally realize that we are here at this time in human history to go beyond what has been normalized in our living and leading.

It’s here, it’s time, it’s now to be great!

III. Just Hold On

When you're feeling the most trapped and down and nothing can't go right.

  • Those are the moments that define you.

  • Those are those character cannon moments that are like, what am I going to do now? How am I going to respond?

Because this isn't it for you.

  • This is a stop for you.

  • This is a chapter in your book.

So, just hold on.

The Last Words…

"I hope you find the courage to change your life. In the small ways, in the big ways, in every way that matters. I hope you do not end this story with a heart full of regrets. I hope you do not spend your years just waiting for your life to begin. I hope you realize that this is not the practice run, this is not the preview. This is it. There is nothing to do but leap. There is nothing to do but allow yourself to exist as boldly and honestly as you can. You will think you have forever, but you do not. It all happens, and it happens quickly. You are not waiting on another person, or the right timing, or for everything to fall into place. You are waiting to feel ready enough to exist within the questions, to not need every answer, and to know that this life does not come to us to be perfectly understood, but to be fully experienced, in every direction we can possibly reach."
