“Despair was a choice. Hatred was a choice. Anger was a choice. I still had choices, and that knowledge rocked me…I could choose to give up or to hang on. Hope was a choice. Faith was a choice. And more than anything else, love was a choice. Compassion was a choice.”

― Anthony Ray Hinton

I. Unlearn & Liberate Yourself

  • Open up your mind: Be Free.

  • Discover who you are: Be You.

  • Let go of certainty: Be Unsure.

  • Make peace with time: Be Present.

  • Learn something every day: Be Curious.

  • Cherish what matters most: Live Purposefully.

II. For Those Who Want to Lead: Read

  •  If you have a book, you have a mentor.

  • The best books teach us how to think not what to think.

  • A person who does not read, is no better off than a person who cannot read.

  • Take responsibility to transfer information into knowledge and knowledge into wisdom.

III. Clarity of Purpose

Participating in four kinds of life experiences can promote a clear sense of purpose:

  1. “Physical and mental well-being” – Participate in activities that promote good health.

  2. “Belonging and recognition” – Give and receive validation mutually from people who matter to you.

  3. “Personally treasured activities” – Make time daily to do the things you love.

  4. “Spiritual closeness and connectedness” – Seek a sense of connection to something bigger than yourself and the feeling of being a part of the collective human experience.

IV. Question

In what areas of my life am I trading authenticity for safety, or what appears to be safety?

V. This Week I Will

  1. Stretch.

  2. Smell the flowers.

  3. Start my days calmly.

  4. Invest my energy wisely.

  5. Notice internal judgments.

The Last Words…

“When you understand that you don’t have to justify your dreams to anyone else for any reason, that’s the day you truly begin to step into who you’re meant to be.”

― Rachel Hollis
