“Commitment is staying true to what you said you would do long after the mood that you said it in has left.”

I. What I'm Leaving in 2020

  • Staying stuck and settling: I am inviting courage into my life by taking productive steps to move forward intentionally.

  • Comparison: I am releasing comparison and limiting beliefs that I am not where I "should" be. That mindset is crippling and distracting.

  • Chasing approval from outsiders: I am my own biggest cheerleader. Validation must start with me.

  • Forgetting to count my blessings: I am grateful for the life I have, and I am committed to more mindful reflection about the goodness in front of me.

  • Peace disrupters: I am releasing all things that attempt to steal my joy and interrupt my peace of mind.

  • Overextending myself when I should be resting: I am deserving of physical rest, emotional ease, and a time to recharge. Pouring from an empty cup serves no one.

II. Reclaiming My Time

With the gift of life, we have 24 hours, 1,440 minutes, and 86,400 seconds of unique opportunity each day to cultivate time:

  • To think and live + To act and speak.

  • To learn and grow + To stand and move.

  • To forgive and heal + To listen and solve.

  • To love and discover + To accept and let go.

  • To witness and challenge + To question and understand.

  • To be uncommon and a positive difference-maker in my living.

III. Inner Critic vs. Inner Coach

  • Inner Critic: Blames self ― Inner Coach: Forgives self

  • Inner Critic: Reacts quickly ― Inner Coach: Slows down

  • Inner Critic: Sees deficits ― Inner Coach: Sees possibilities

  • Inner Critic: Condemns limits ― Inner Coach: Acquires skill

  • Inner Critic: Makes Judgments ― Inner Coach: Asks Questions

  • Inner Critic: Lives in victimhood― Inner Coach: Lives in choice

  • Inner Critic: Gives power away ― Inner Coach: Takes power back

  • Inner Critic: Seeks perfection ― Inner Coach: Create experiments

  • Inner Critic: Compares to others ― Inner Coach: Learns from others

  • Inner Critic: Emerges from wounds ― Inner Coach: Emerges from spirit

  • Inner Critic: Resists feelings / the body ― Inner Coach: Inhabits feelings / the body

IV. Question

How have you changed this year?

V. This Week I Will

  1. Thank 2020 for the lessons.

  2. Give myself and others grace.

  3. Celebrate the journey and gift of life.

  4. Cultivate space for quiet and reflection.

  5. Offer loving-kindness to my inner critic.

The Last Words…

“No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough. It’s going to bed at night thinking, Yes, I am imperfect and vulnerable and sometimes afraid, but that doesn’t change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging.”

― Brené Brown, The Gifts of Imperfection
