“Growth can require different things in different seasons. At times, growth requires gathering yourself and running for your life. In other times, growth requires resisting the pull to run, settling your spirit, breathing, and planting roots. Know your season.”

― Dr. Thema Bryant-Davis, Psychologist, Minister & Artist

I. A Wise Coach

  • A wise coach understands to discover the right answers, they have to ask the right questions.

  • A wise coach intentionally cultivates thinking time every day for reflecting, learning, unlearning and asking why.

  • A wise coach engages in activities weekly that stretch beyond their comfort zone and the status quo.

  • A wise coach empowers those they lead to be unconventional and authentic.

  • A wise coach strives each day to make a positive difference in the lives of those they lead and love.

II. Calming the Storm

Let's begin to think of meditation as shifting from doing to being. To experience the shift, try the following exercises:

  • Pay attention to your sensations – Is the day hot, cold, breezy? What does the moon look like? What do you hear? What is this exact moment? What is happening in it that distinguishes it from all other moments?

  • Focus on your breathing – Don’t judge it, change it or guide it. Just pay attention to it. At first, this may be difficult. Your attention will wander. Bring it back. Return your focus to your breathing any time during the day that you need an anchor for your consciousness.

  • Remind yourself, “This is it.” – The present moment is the only thing that exists. The past is gone; the future may not arrive.

  • Ask yourself, “Where is my mind right now?” – This will show you that you are not your thoughts; you are something more.

III. The Art of Questioning

Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in our lives and organizations. It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas while fueling trust, innovation and performance improvement. ― Harvard Business Review

Questioning should start with strategic words such as:

  • What if… | How can…

  • Does this… | Are there…

  • Can we… | Should we…

  • Have we… | Who has…

IV. Question

What type of relationships do I want to nourish in my life?

V. This Week I Will

  1. Get out of my way.

  2. Choose calm over chaos.

  3. Speak my dreams into existence.

  4. Focus on progress over perfection.

  5. Let go of something that no longer serves me.

The Last Words…

“When a door closes, knock on it a few times. But if it still doesn’t open, let it stay closed. In career, in love, in life – when you see the period at the end of the sentence, don’t try and turn it into a comma. Know when something is over and move on.”

― Mandy Hale, NYT Bestselling Author
